Manufacturing
of the elastic
The latex is the sap produced
by the hevea tree. After a coagulation in an acid
acetique bath and a vulcanisation, the latex strings are
assembled by a sand made out of 40 strings.
Each latex string has a diameter of 1.27mm. One meter of
string weights 115 gramms. An elastic used for bungee
jumps is made out of more than 900 strings and weight
close to a kilo per meter! The elasticity
characteristics of this rubber are matchless. While a
jump, it can lengthening is approx. 3 to 4 times its
initial lenght. It can lengthen up to 7.5 times before
any rupture.
In this way, with an elastic of 2.8 meters, the drop
will be of 107 meters with a speed of about 100 km/h.
The characterstics fluctuate depending on the diameter
of the elastic and anchorage points.
